If I was already spending 22k on a build I wouldn't want a probably good used motor to be the foundation. Good used, to me means that it ran when the vehicle was wrecked or for whatever reason had the motor removed. I wouldn't typically take it to mean that the motor had been opened up and verified to be good. If you ask ask shop to rebuild a motor then they should stand behind all the work they did, the parts they put in, and that it was assembled properly. It should be warrantied to the same standard as they would a brand new motor, at least imo. A 'good used' motor should be warrantied to run, at least if they claimed it would, but really take a chance with how well or for how long. anyways none of that is a commentary on how Z1 should resolve this situation for you, only on how I personally would have felt more comfortable rebuilding, or buying a rebuilt longblock vs. the JDM or salvage motor route. Even if you were not going to spend 22k on the car.
